A figurative Adelaide-born painter, Stewart MacFarlane has spent the vast majority of his adult life travelling and following his two great passions – art and music. MacFarlane's paintings are heavily saturated with urban and rural landscapes, decaying architecture and characters that seek explanation. MacFarlane has held over 50 solo exhibitions of his work in Asia, the United States and Germany. Within Australia his work is widely collected and is represented, amongst others, in the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, the QLD Art Gallery, Artbank, Art Gallery of WA, Brisbane City Gallery, the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and many regional institutions.
