Under a Modern Sun
This display brings together works by renowned Brisbane painters Vida Lahey and William Bustard alongside regional luminaries Kenneth Macqueen and Joe Rootsey. Their art is presented in dialogue with visiting figures such as Sidney Nolan and Max Dupain, who drew inspiration from Queensland’s histories and landscapes to shape a modernist sensibility.
The exhibition also highlights the pivotal contributions of women artists including Lahey, Daphne Mayo, Gwendolyn Grant, Rose Simmonds, and ceramicists of the Harvey School. Later works by Margaret Olley, Margaret Cilento, and Jon Molvig showcase the expressive directions that Queensland art embraced in the decades that followed.
